Community Involvement

Paul J. Roshka

In 2011 Paul Roshka was named a Chairman Emeritus of Phoenix Children's Hospital. Paul's commitment to PCH began in the mid-1980s. He served as Chairman of the Hospital's Holiday Card Project for four years during which time the fundraiser's revenues increased from $8000 annually to approximately $250,000 annually. Paul received a KPNX TV’s 12 Who Care Hon Kachina award from the Lukesmen and an award from the Jefferson Institute for Public Service for his dedication to the Project.

He chaired the Board of Directors of the Center for the Treatment of Blood Disorders and Cancer; served for three terms as Chairman of the PCH Foundation and also chaired the Hospital's Board of Directors during the period the institution began its move from being a hospital within a hospital to a free standing independent facility solely dedication to caring for children afflicted with serious illnesses. Today PCH is one of the five largest children's hospitals in the United States.

When Paul's term as Chairman of the Board of Directors concluded he learned the Hospital's Board Room would bear his name in recognition of his leadership and commitment to PCH.

He is a Past Chairman of Phoenix Sun Charities’ Board of Trustees and Past President of the Phoenix Zoo’s Wildest Club in Town.

John E. DeWulf

John E. DeWulf serves on the Board of Directors of Social Venture Partners, an organization with the mission of promoting philanthropy in the community and building sustainable nonprofits.

John also chairs Youth Partners Foundation, a nonprofit which has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars to worthy organizations benefiting children.

John also serves on the Advisory Board of Canyon State Academy, an education and living facility for at-risk young men.

Michael W. Patten

Michael W. Patten is a past-Chair and current member of the Board of Directors of Newtown Community Development Community Land Trust. Newtown is a non-profit organization that uses unique and innovative strategies in addressing homebuyer education and increasing homeownership in the metropolitan Phoenix area, including Tempe, Chandler, Scottsdale and Glendale.

J. Matthew Derstine

J. Matthew Derstine is a CASA volunteer. CASAs are trained volunteers who spend time with children in the foster care system and advocate on their behalf with the judge, attorneys and caseworkers charged with decisions about their care. Matt works with three boys. Matt was featured in an article in the " Raising Arizona Kids" magazine for his work in the CASA program.

Jason D. Gellman

Jason D. Gellman is an Attorney-Coach for the South Mountain High School Law Magnet Program – Mock Trial and Trial Advocacy Class. Jason counsels and advises students on trial advocacy skills for practice cases and the state and national competitions. This past year one of his students was named Outstanding Attorney and one was named Outstanding Witness. He has been involved for three years.

In 2011, Jason Gellman became a Board Member for the Phoenix Union Foundation for Education, a non-profit organization founded in 1984 to provide support for district-wide, college-going student programs and college scholarships, support the strategic plan of the Phoenix Union High School District – and to support pathways to success for college, career and life. The Foundation’s mission statement is “Strengthening the Community by Investing in Student Success.

Jeffrey D. Gardner

Jeffrey D. Gardner is a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of The Wellness Community. This is a non-profit organization that provides free emotional support, education and hope for people with cancer and their loved ones.

Darlene M. Wauro

Darlene M. Wauro recently concluded her term as a member of the Board of Trustee for the Arizona Zoological Society (The Phoenix Zoo). She is also a Guardian member of the Phoenix Zoo. The mission of this organization is to "inspire people to live in ways that promote the well-being of the natural world."

Roshka DeWulf & Patten

Roshka DeWulf & Patten has served as counsel on a pro bono basis to the PCH Foundation, Phoenix Suns Charities, Arizona Republic Charities and the Junior Golf Association of Arizona.

The firm is a major sponsor of the Bob Blesch Memorial Golf Tournament. The proceeds from this event are used to support PCH's efforts to provide funding for Camp Rainbow, a camp for 125 children who have or have had cancer.

Roshka DeWulf & Patten has sponsored numerous activities involving local charities such as East Valley Women’s League, Newtown Community Development, Make-a-Wish, Alzheimer’s Association, Tucson Soccer Academy, The Thunderbirds, The Wellness Community, Cox Charities, American Cancer Society, and Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s Beach Ball.
